The Christmas Tree Forest at Flora Tree Farm

About The CHRISTMAS TREE FOREST
at Flora Tree Farm

The Christmas Tree Forest is a traditional “Choose and Cut” farm located at  Flora Tree Farm in Boone County just south of Belvidere, Rockford, and Cherry Valley amongst beautiful Northern Illinois farm country!

You will find two fields of naturally grown Christmas trees of all species and sizes nestled within 40 acres of permanent forest and habitat restorations.  Enjoy a tractor-pulled hay ride for fun or help shuttle you to and from our visitors barn. You may prefer to enjoy a short or long nature trail walk to the trees through the young forest and prairie grasses.

Our customers appreciate the complimentary service of our tree-shaker and netting-baler  for a clean tree that is easy to handle.  The visitors barn hosts hot cider, coffee and other sweet treats for our guests.  You will always find traditional Christmas balsam and specialty wreaths sale. All greens and boughs are cut fresh from our tree farm. We all enjoy the bonfire outside the visitors Barn!

Visit us this season for a fresh, Quality Tree on our peaceful country Tree Farm.  Once you find us just stop into the red barn to pickup a saw and map to enjoy your visit.  We will gladly cut a tree (or haul it) for you during our season if you are unable.

Features of The CHRISTMAS TREE FOREST
at Flora Tree Farm

The Christmas Tree Forest is much like some natural forests in appearance. You’ll find a mix of species and ages of trees through-out which changes from year to year depending on what is cut by our customers and what is then planted each season by us. We plant and favor both popular and unique pine and fir species in the Christmas Tree Forest. The fir and pine species make the best Christmas trees.

All pines in the Christmas Tree Forest are sheared neatly into classic Christmas tree form. You will find all firs, and any spruce, grown naturally with no shearing. The natural form of fir and spruce is a natural Christmas tree form. Please see the photo. Neither the pines or firs are exposed to chemical fertilizers or colorants because we do not use them. The Flora Tree Farm was specifically established on naturally rich, black soil. Christmas tree success is governed by site and species selection with the grace of a at least a few good growing seasons. Tree color and hue will vary year to year on many species.

If you appreciate land conservation you will cherish the fact that the "Christmas Tree Forest" areas are a natural extension of the wildlife habitat and conservation the whole farm is managed for. The parking area and visitors barn are the only acres of 40 that are not home to forestry, conservation, and wildlife habitat. Although they are meshed into the farm conservation habitat - trees in our Christmas Tree Forest are for you to cut fresh and enjoy.
